A few additional photos from the Benner Street fire on Thursday, May 9th.
Highland Park Volunteer Fire Department Truck 3 had its first live, working response to assist fire suppression & ventilation of the roof. Fire was heavy on the upper levels and trapped in the walls & ceilings. Heavy smoke & hot fire was met at the top floor, so vertical ventilation (cutting the roof to allow smoke & hot gasses to escape) was necessary to assist the fire suppression operations & ensure safety of the firefighters inside the home.
Truck 3 was connected & ready to flow water if necessary from the tower ladder pipe but was ultimately not needed as firefighters were able to knock down the fire from the interior.
Thankfully the homeowners were able to escape unharmed and seek refuge with neighbors.
